We don’t have enough wingers for start of season – Iraola
Liverpool have had an improved £60m bid for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh turned down, though talks between the clubs are continuing as Brighton hold out for closer to £70m. The pursuit comes after new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola admitted his squad lacks sufficient wide players ahead of the new season, though he expressed confidence a solution would be found before the transfer window closes.
Minteh, a 22-year-old Gambia international who joined Brighton from Newcastle for £30m in 2024, has scored 10 goals and made nine assists in 73 appearances for the Seagulls, and had a £50m Liverpool bid rejected earlier in the week. Liverpool have also looked at PSG's Ibrahim Mbaye, with his team-mate Bradley Barcola remaining their main wide-attacking target. Since replacing Arne Slot, Iraola has brought in Victor Munoz, Ronald Araujo on loan and Jeremy Jacquet, while Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate and Curtis Jones (nearing a £30m Inter Milan move) have departed, with Iraola stressing the squad remains "quite thin" ahead of his first competitive match, against Newcastle on Sunday.
