Olivia Cusack and Maddy Cusack’s family are working to keep the former Sheffield United footballer’s legacy alive three years after her death. Olivia and around 15 relatives and friends walked 29 miles from Bramall Lane to the family home near Derby, raising funds and remembering Maddy as a person rather than merely a player. The walk came amid continued uncertainty over the circumstances of Maddy’s death and renewed delays to the inquest.

Maddy, who was 27 and a former England Under-19 international, was Sheffield United Women’s first player to make 100 appearances. The inquest began in June after several postponements but was adjourned in July when further documents emerged; it is due to resume on 7 December, following eight days of evidence. A minute’s applause will also take place before Sheffield United’s Women’s Super League 2 match against Newcastle.
