## Key points

- Residents want Los Angeles to address crowds around the Hollywood sign.
- They cite blocked roads, fire risks and sanitation problems.
- Parking restrictions and enforcement have not eased their concerns.

## Summary

Hollywood Hills residents have sued Los Angeles, asking a judge to make the city tackle crowds visiting the Hollywood sign. They say tourist traffic has turned residential streets into a safety hazard, with emergency vehicles held up and locals at risk if a wildfire forces an evacuation.

Residents have reported gridlocked roads, illegal parking, litter, unlicensed food sellers and a lack of public toilets, as well as cigarette butts in fire-prone hillsides. They blame social media and navigation apps for sending visitors through streets not built for heavy traffic. City measures introduced in mid-May restricted parking on weekends and holidays and increased enforcement, but residents say they have had little effect; the lawsuit seeks action rather than compensation.
