HBO's "IT: Welcome to Derry" has announced that its second season will delve further into Stephen King's original novel by dramatising a section of backstory that the film adaptations left out. Co-creators Andy and Barbara Muschietti, along with the network, confirmed the new direction, promising deeper exploration of Pennywise's history and lore. The prequel series, which launched in October 2025 to strong reviews, does not yet have a confirmed premiere date for its return.

Season 1 was set in 1960s Derry, Maine, but Season 2 will travel back further to 1935, during the Great Depression, focusing on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a band of bank robbers who meet a horrific fate in the town. Bill Skarsgård is set to reprise his role as Pennywise, while HBO Max's Sarah Aubrey said the Muschiettis and Brad Caleb Kane would "break new ground" in the new season. Season 1 had earned an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

  • "Welcome to Derry" Season 2 will be set in 1935 Derry.
