West Ham condemn ‘divisive’ chant about Israel’s Solomon
West Ham United have issued a statement condemning an "offensive and divisive" chant containing an "anti-Palestine message" that was aimed at their new winger Manor Solomon during the club's opening Championship match of the season. The chant was sung by a section of away supporters during the 2-2 draw at Burnley last Sunday, prompting the club to remind fans of their responsibility as ambassadors and to call for singing that unites rather than divides the fanbase.
The statement was released ahead of West Ham's first home Championship fixture of the season, against Charlton this Saturday, and stressed that all supporters should be able to watch matches free from discrimination or abuse. Solomon, a 27-year-old Israel international with 49 caps, joined West Ham recently from Tottenham having previously had loan spells at Fulham and Leeds, where he helped secure the Championship title in 2024-25; he also won three league titles with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.
