## Key points

- Scott Parker returns to West Ham as head coach.
- He has a two-and-a-half-year contract.
- West Ham sit eighth, six points off the top.

## Summary

West Ham United have appointed former midfielder Scott Parker as head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo after a poor start to their Championship campaign. Parker has guided Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley to promotion from the division, and West Ham hope he can lead them back to the Premier League.

Parker takes charge for the first time on Wednesday away to Cardiff City, with Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville and Billy Lepine among his assistants. West Ham are eighth, six points behind leaders Middlesbrough, after losing their last two home games; they have won two of their past six. The club raised about £150m from summer player sales and spent a reported £22m on Arne Engels, a Championship record fee.
