Jury selection has begun in the murder trial of Duane "Keffe D" Davis, the man accused of orchestrating rapper Tupac Shakur's fatal shooting in Las Vegas nearly 30 years ago. Davis, 63, faces one charge of murder with a deadly weapon with intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang; prosecutors allege he both ordered the killing and supplied the murder weapon, while Davis maintains his innocence. The case is notable for the evidence set to be used against him, including his own memoir and a Netflix docuseries on Sean "Diddy" Combs.

Shakur was shot four times from a passing white Cadillac on 7 September 1996 in Paradise, Nevada, while riding with label boss Marion "Suge" Knight, and died six days later. The shooting followed an earlier altercation that night between Shakur's entourage and Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, a South Side Crips member and Davis's nephew, who was briefly arrested but never charged and was long suspected of firing the fatal shots before his own death in 1998. A 2011 book by former LAPD detective Greg Kading included a taped 2008 police confession in which Davis claimed Diddy had offered him $1 million to kill Shakur and Knight, an allegation that has resurfaced as part of the case's evidence.
