Berlin police have named the suspect in Saturday night's Pride ramming attack as Abdul Ballout, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese background, and revised the number of injured up to at least 29, with one woman killed. Officials say the attack, in which a van was driven into crowds at the Christopher Street Day event before some victims were also stabbed, was likely "Islamist terror", and German media report Ballout had tried to join the Islamic State group and been through a de-radicalisation programme after previous convictions. He remains at large despite a citywide manhunt, and police have warned he may not have acted alone.

The attack happened at around 22:00 local time near the Brandenburg Gate, forcing organisers to cancel the event and evacuate hundreds of thousands of attendees from Tiergarten park; the vehicle was later found crashed into a tree. Police say Ballout, described as tall and thin and last seen in a black hooded top and white trousers, was known to them, had served a suspended prison sentence, and had travelled to Lebanon in 2025 before being arrested on his return and held in pre-trial detention until May 2026. Officers are guarding an apartment block in the Tiergarten district linked to him, and the public has been urged to share information but not approach him, as he is considered armed and dangerous. Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the attack as "heinous".
