Rebecca Yarros has announced *Threshing Day*, a new addition to her bestselling Empyrean fantasy series, due for release on 29 September 2026. The collection returns readers to Basgiath War College with 13 short stories following fan-favourite characters and their dragons through their own Threshing Days, while Yarros continues work on the fourth mainline novel. The announcement matters to fans because it offers a fresh instalment in one of publishing's biggest current fantasy franchises without being the long-awaited Book 4, which Yarros has been careful to distinguish it from.

The Empyrean series follows Violet Sorrengail, who is forced into brutal dragon-rider training at Basgiath, and her fraught relationship with wingleader Xaden Riorson; one of the new stories will focus on Xaden's own Threshing Day. The franchise is also expanding on screen, with Prime Video developing a live-action Fourth Wing series produced through Michael B. Jordan's Outlier Society, showrun by Meredith Averill and with Lisa Joy directing the pilot episode.
