Ryan Murphy's new FX series "The Shards," based on Bret Easton Ellis's semi-autobiographical bestselling novel, premieres on 5 August with a double-episode launch. It follows Murphy's earlier success with "Love Story" and continues his run of adapting popular books for television, giving fans of the novel a chance to see the story brought to screen.

The two-part premiere airs at 9pm PT/ET on FX, with subsequent episodes released weekly on Wednesdays; the nine-episode first season is also available to stream simultaneously on Hulu/Disney+. Viewers without cable can watch live via services carrying FX, including DirecTV, Fubo, Sling and Hulu + Live TV, with DirecTV offering a five-day free trial and bundled access to Hulu/Disney+. Standalone Hulu starts at $11.99 a month, while combined Disney+/Hulu packages and larger bundles including HBO Max or ESPN offer further savings.
