White House addresses growing parasite outbreak after more than 400 Americans sickened
The White House has said it is closely monitoring a growing multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic illness, which has sickened more than 400 people across the United States. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the matter at a briefing on Thursday, as federal health officials continue working to trace the contaminated food source responsible for the illnesses.
The outbreak, caused by the Cyclospora parasite, is currently affecting at least four Midwestern states. Leavitt said the administration remains committed to ensuring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration have the resources they need to manage the situation and identify the source of contamination.
