## Key points

- Weijia Jiang said the association would not be intimidated.
- Security concerns rose after a gunman attack.

## Summary

White House Correspondents’ Association president Weijia Jiang has confirmed that the organisation’s rescheduled annual dinner will proceed following a gunman attack linked to the event. She said the association would not be intimidated, framing the decision as a defence of press freedom and the work of journalists covering the White House.

The dinner was postponed after the shooting, with organisers reviewing security arrangements before setting a new date. The event traditionally gathers journalists, politicians and other prominent guests, and its continuation comes amid broader concerns about threats towards the media and public political events.
