The association said such unannounced security measures could undermine reporters’ credibility if journalists unknowingly provide inaccurate information about the president’s location.

The request followed reports that Trump used a decoy aircraft arrangement while returning from the summit, with correspondents apparently left unaware of the change. The WHCA did not oppose necessary security precautions, but sought a system that would protect operational security while allowing the press to avoid publishing misleading accounts.
