White House silent on Iran-Oman Hormuz plan Tehran says would ban US warships

Fox News · 4 hours ago

The White House has not said whether President Trump would accept an Iran-Oman proposal that Tehran says could bar foreign military vessels, including US warships, from the Strait of Hormuz. The issue matters because the strait is a vital international shipping route and any restriction on US naval access could intensify a dispute over Iran’s claimed authority there.

US Central Command said Iran does not control the strait and that US forces have assisted almost 1,500 vessels since early May. Iran and Oman proposed a temporary commercial corridor and joint mine-clearing effort, but key terms remain unsettled; Iran has mentioned excluding military vessels and sharing revenues, while Oman has not publicly confirmed either point. Oil flows were about 5 million barrels a day on Monday, compared with more than 20 million before the war.
