## Key points

- Whitney Cummings says Netflix cut her Trump joke from Maher tribute special
- Claim echoes wider complaints about censoring anti-Trump comedy on streaming
- Netflix and the Kennedy Center have not publicly responded to the claim

## Summary

Comedian Whitney Cummings claimed that a joke she made about President Donald Trump was cut from Netflix's broadcast of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor special honouring Bill Maher. Her claim adds to a wider pattern of complaints from comedians and entertainers about material being softened or removed when it targets Trump, feeding into an ongoing debate about political comedy and free expression on major streaming platforms.

Cummings was one of several comedians who took part in the tribute to Maher, a fellow comic well known for his own outspoken political commentary, including recent remarks criticising anti-Trump artists for boycotting Kennedy Center performances. Specific details of the joke that was allegedly removed, along with any explanation from Netflix, were not confirmed, and neither Netflix nor the Kennedy Center, which presents the award, issued a public response to the claim.
