‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ Cashes In Best Performance In A Year For Ben Affleck & Jamie Ding Victory

Deadline · 3 hours ago

"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" delivered its best ratings performance in a year on ABC after Ben Affleck and contestant Jamie Ding won the $1 million top prize, with all proceeds going to Affleck's Eastern Congo Initiative charity. The episode's success gave the network a notable ratings boost, underlining the continued appeal of celebrity-linked instalments of the revived quiz show since Jimmy Kimmel relaunched it in 2020.

The 29 July episode drew 4.22 million live and same-day viewers according to Nielsen, up 4% on the 4.07 million who watched the Season 5 premiere, and marked ABC's top-rated programme of the night for a second consecutive week. Affleck and Ding secured the win by correctly answering a question about presidential turkey pardons, in what was the show's strongest outing since Matt Damon won $1 million alongside Ken Jennings last summer. Season 5 has also featured Larry David and daughter Cazzie David, Jason Alexander, Wayne Knight, Tig Notaro and Pete Holmes, with upcoming episodes pairing Brad Paisley with Clayton Kershaw and Michael Kosta with Wendi McLendon-Covey. The show airs Wednesdays on ABC and streams the following day on Hulu.
