## Summary

The article provides further detail on the dispute that preceded Cristiano Ronaldo’s retirement from international football, announced after a record-breaking 23-year career with Portugal. The 41-year-old left the team’s training camp amid a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus over his role and the handling of his omission from matches.

Ronaldo said he had agreed to miss the Norway and Denmark games to manage his fitness, but that Jesus later told him he would play for 30 minutes against Norway; Ronaldo warmed up but was not brought on. He said the coach broke his word twice, while maintaining he remained available after leaving camp. Jesus had said Ronaldo could return if he chose, and Ronaldo described his eventual decision to retire as difficult and guided by both his head and heart.
