Why is your iPad not charging (and how to fix it)
An iPad that will not charge is usually experiencing a problem with its cable, power adapter or charging port, rather than being permanently broken. Using a reliable, sufficiently powerful charger and cable, and testing different accessories and wall outlets, can help identify whether the fault lies with the equipment or the tablet.
Apple recommends a charger delivering at least 10W, while cheap or underpowered accessories may fail to provide enough power. An iPad left completely discharged for weeks may need considerable time on charge, and charging can slow or stop in temperatures outside 32°F–95°F (0°C–35°C). If several working chargers fail, inspect the port for dirt, bent pins, scratches or discolouration; damaged ports may require Apple Support, with warranty or AppleCare coverage depending on the cause.
- Faulty or weak chargers are the most common cause.
- Test different cables, adapters and wall outlets.
- Inspect the charging port and seek Apple support if damaged.
