Julie Andrews has confirmed she will not appear in "The Princess Diaries 3", telling The Hollywood Reporter she feels she is "really past all that now." Speaking alongside her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton about their new children's book "Shy", the actress said she remains professionally active but has shifted towards writing, podcasts and voiceover work rather than on-screen roles, adding that although she is enthusiastic about the project, she doesn't feel she should be part of it.

Andrews, who played Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the first two instalments, said she was unsure what the third film should explore but noted that Anne Hathaway, reprising her role as Mia Thermopolis, is now older than when she made the earlier films. She also reflected fondly on the original 2001 film, which recently marked its 25th anniversary, praising late director Garry Marshall. The threequel, announced in 2024, will be directed by Adele Lim, with original producer Debra Martin Chase returning alongside executive producers Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack; author Meg Cabot told THR she has read and loved the script, and that discussions to revive the franchise had been ongoing for a long time.
