Why three is no crowd for Swansea boss Matos
Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos says the signing of Ross Stewart is intended to strengthen, rather than replace, his attacking options. He believes a squad containing Stewart, Zan Vipotnik and Adam Idah can manage the demands of the Championship and cup competitions, addressing the lack of striker depth Swansea experienced last season.
Stewart, 30, joined on a three-year deal after leaving Southampton, where injuries limited his first two seasons before a stronger 2025-26 campaign. Vipotnik, 24, scored 23 league goals last season and has attracted European interest, while £6m signing Idah, 25, is looking to recover his influence after injury and limited opportunities; neither player has received a bid, according to Swansea. Stewart will miss Saturday’s EFL Cup opener against Birmingham because he had no pre-season, while Vipotnik is still regaining fitness after a quad problem.
