‘Widow’s Bay’ Enters The Emmy Conversation With 19 Nominations

Deadline · 3 hours ago

The horror comedy "Widow's Bay", created by former Parks and Recreation writer Katie Dippold, has secured 19 Emmy nominations, including a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series and one for its star Matthew Rhys. The haul matters because the Apple series became one of the summer's streaming hits while voting was under way, and there had been uncertainty over whether it would translate that popularity into recognition from the TV Academy.

The tally makes it the biggest showing for a new programme this year, surpassing Apple's own "Pluribus", and is regarded as especially notable because the final three episodes of the season were not eligible owing to timing. Alongside its lead and series nominations, the show earned acting nods for Kate O'Flynn, Dale Dickey, Stephen Root, Hamish Linklater and Betty Gilpin, plus recognition across craft categories including directing, writing, cinematography, editing and sound. Rhys plays Mayor Tom Loftis, who tries to revive a supposedly cursed island community, only for its old legends to prove true.
