Wigan beat Wakefield to go top of Super League
Wigan Warriors moved top of Super League after a 26-12 win over Wakefield Trinity, extending their run to a club-record 12 successive victories in the competition. Jai Field's spectacular 95-metre counter-attacking try, set up by a Wakefield knock-on, proved decisive as the hosts overturned a fightback that had brought Wakefield within touching distance in the second half. The result lifts Wigan above Leeds Rhinos at the summit, while Wakefield remain fourth but face a third straight defeat.
Wigan led 20-0 at half-time thanks to a Bevan French try and two quickfire scores from Liam Marshall, before Corey Hall and Ky Rodwell hit back for Wakefield after the break. Wakefield handed a debut to prop Emre Guler, whose move from NRL club St George Illawarra Dragons was hastily brought forward. The Super League table could shift again this weekend, with Leeds able to reclaim top spot against York Knights and Wakefield risking a drop to fifth if Hull KR beat Toulouse Olympique.
