Dolly Parton’s death has triggered a sharp rise in US streaming, creating the possibility that her 2003 compilation Ultimate Dolly Parton could become her first Billboard 200 No. 1 album. Such an achievement would be significant because, despite a six-decade career and 50 Billboard 200 entries, Parton never topped the album chart during her lifetime.

On 25 August, Parton was reportedly the second most-streamed artist in the US, with streams rising by more than 2,000% week on week and exceeding 46 million the following day. Ultimate Dolly Parton, which contains songs including “Jolene”, “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You”, had sold nearly 6,000 copies during the tracking week, but faces competition from ENHYPEN’s The Sin: Bliss; its late-week streaming surge may instead position it for No. 2 or a later challenge for the top spot.
