William Gibson, author of the seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, has moved to reassure fans after Apple TV's first full trailer for its long-awaited adaptation prompted a mixed reaction online. The trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and quickly divided viewers over casting choices, including Callum Turner as protagonist Case, as well as the show's tone and visual interpretation of Gibson's 1984 novel. Given the book's four-decade cult status without a proper screen adaptation, expectations among its devoted readership were always going to be difficult to satisfy.

Gibson, who serves as an executive producer on the series, wrote on Bluesky that he has been "extremely satisfied" throughout production, dismissing concerns from doubters. He previously explained in 2024 that his involvement is advisory rather than authoritative, noting he has no veto power and that adaptation is inherently a collaborative process distinct from the solitary act of writing a novel. This is Gibson's second major screen adaptation after Prime Video's The Peripheral, which received mixed reviews, and follows his earlier, less happy experience adapting Johnny Mnemonic for film. Apple TV's Neuromancer is due to premiere on 22 January 2027.
