Winamp is set to return in 2027 as a new subscription-based music player through a partnership with Deezer. The service will combine streaming with local files, internet radio, podcasts and cloud libraries, while the classic desktop app will continue separately. The revival matters because it gives Winamp access to licensed music and streaming infrastructure it previously lacked.

Deezer will provide the catalogue and technology, while Winamp retains control of its product, branding and subscriber relationships. Winamp says the original app still has more than 40 million active users worldwide, but pricing, platforms and launch details remain undisclosed. The deal also supports Deezer’s strategy of expanding white-label partnerships after partner subscriptions fell to 3.1 million and partnership revenue dropped 7.6% to €70.7 million in the first half of 2026.
