Alex Conyngham, now Marquess Conyngham and Earl of Mountcharles, has been reflecting on his childhood memories of Slane Castle and his decision to bring The Traitors Ireland to the estate, following the death of his father, Lord Henry Mountcharles, in June 2025. Speaking about taking over the family's business, he described approaching production company Kite Productions himself to host the show, which he sees as a natural extension of Slane's long history of hosting major events and diversifying its income streams.

Conyngham, who was inspired as an 11-year-old by Freddie Mercury's 1986 Queen concert at Slane, said the castle's role as a backdrop has given the property renewed character on screen, and that his family's tradition of discretion around Slane's gigs made keeping the show's location secret straightforward. It has also been announced that Fontaines DC will headline a concert at the 80,000-capacity venue next June, with tickets already selling fast. Conyngham lives at the castle with his wife, Carina, and their three children.
