Keisha Lance Bottoms, a Democratic candidate for Georgia governor, has sent her four children to Woodward Academy, a private school with annual tuition of $37,000–$40,000, despite publicly supporting her party's opposition to school choice programmes. The Democratic Party of Georgia has characterised school choice policies as a "scam to siphon taxpayer money" from public education, yet Bottoms has simultaneously championed increased public school funding. This apparent contradiction has drawn attention as the race against Republican Rick Jackson—who supports school choice and education vouchers—remains closely contested.

The financial commitment is substantial: two of Bottoms's four children have already graduated from the academy, and her current twin students cost approximately $80,000 annually in combined tuition. A full 14-year attendance from pre-K through 12th grade costs $477,740 per child. Bottoms has focused her campaign on expanding Georgia's universal pre-K programme, which currently reaches only 57 per cent of eligible four-year-olds, proposing an additional $330 million in funding financed through legalising casino gambling. She has not publicly stated a position on Georgia's existing school choice policy.
