Wolves In The Throne Room Announce New Album Estuary: Hear “Ghosts In The Obelisks”

Stereogum · 2 hours ago

Pacific Northwest black metal band Wolves In The Throne Room have announced their 10th studio album, Estuary, due out on 23 October via Relapse Records. The concept album follows their 2023 EP Crypt Of Ancestral Knowledge and imagines a post-apocalyptic world set 1,000 years in the future, where survivors of a cataclysm wander haunted ruins inhabited by mutant creatures, spirits and a new wilderness-based religion.

The band self-produced the record largely at their own Owl Lodge studio in Olympia, Washington, with touring bassist Galen Baudhuin featuring on the album. Frontman Nathan Weaver also directed the video for the eight-minute lead single "Ghosts In The Obelisks", which has been released alongside the announcement. The six-track album includes songs such as "Knights Of Tiamat", "The Orca Cliffs" and "Wretched Spirits, Land Of Light", and is now available for pre-order.
