WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Announce New Album ‘Estuary’
US black metal band Wolves in the Throne Room have announced their new album "Estuary", due for release on 23 October via Relapse Records in North America. Described by the group as their most ferocious and genre-bending record to date, the album continues the band's commitment to analogue production and physical craft, and marks a notable creative step for the long-running Olympia, Washington outfit.
The album is set 1,000 years in the future after civilisation's collapse, following survivors navigating a post-apocalyptic, mutant-filled world where estuaries serve as magical nexus points inhabited by spirits. Frontman Nathan Weaver said the record is rawer and more volatile than previous work, blending industrial noise with the band's signature atmospheric black metal. "Estuary" comprises six tracks and was recorded largely at the band's own Owl Lodge studio, with drums tracked separately by Nicholas Wilbur at The Unknown in Anacortes. The lead single, "Ghosts Among the Obelisks", has been released alongside a music video, and touring bassist Galen Baudhuin contributed low-end parts to the album.
