Woman, 88, is found ‘murdered’ at home as police arrest 36-year-old man
An 88-year-old woman, named locally as Jill Gant, has been found dead at her home in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, prompting a murder investigation by Thames Valley Police. A 36-year-old man from Abingdon has been arrested on suspicion of murder, and police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
Officers were called to the property on Appleford Drive at around 2.20pm on Thursday following reports of an "unexplained death". Ms Gant's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers, and have asked for privacy. Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin said residents should expect an increased police presence but that there is currently believed to be no threat to the wider public.
