Woman is gored to death after straying outside safety barrier during bull-running festival in Spanish town

Daily Mail · 40 minutes ago

A 64-year-old woman died after being gored by a bull during a bull-running festival in Ayna, a small village in Spain's Albacete province, on Saturday morning. The woman, from Catalonia, had reportedly strayed outside the safety barriers on the route and was caught when one of the bulls turned back and attacked her as she tried to run away, falling to the ground before being gored. The tragedy highlights the ongoing risks associated with traditional Spanish bull-running events, prompting organisers to suspend the day's remaining festivities.

The incident occurred at around 11am in an area of the route known as Las Cuevas, where the woman, visiting with her husband, had reportedly stopped by the barrier before attempting to run. Footage showed the animal turning and charging after appearing initially to pass her. A separate man was also injured elsewhere along the route. Ayna, home to just 577 people and nicknamed "Manchegan Switzerland" for its mountainous setting, was midway through its annual patron saint festival, which began on Thursday and had been due to conclude the following day.
