Woman reveller and five men are hunted by police after officers were pelted with bottles as they tried to break up illegal rave
Police in Dorset are hunting a woman and five men after officers attempting to shut down an illegal rave were assaulted and pelted with bottles. Around 2,000 people descended on a field at East Lulworth over the weekend of Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 April, with local residents complaining that thumping drum and bass music kept them awake through the night. The case highlights the disruption caused by large unauthorised events and the risks faced by officers sent to break them up.
Officers in riot gear were called to the event, which continued into the Sunday before the organiser's music equipment was seized, but they were met by a crowd police described as "violent and hostile". Eleven people were arrested at the scene for offences including violent disorder, assaulting an emergency worker and possessing class A drugs. Among them, a man in his 30s from Bedfordshire was held on suspicion of violent disorder and drug possession, while three men — in their 20s from Bridgwater and Pembrokeshire, and in his 30s from Poole — were arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker; all remain on police bail. Police have now released photographs of six people they believe were part of the group.
