French media identified the woman filmed confronting looters in Paris as Emma Kunstlich, a 24-year-old drama student and model. Her plea for the looting to stop went viral, drawing attention to the distinction between protests and the theft and vandalism taking place.

Footage showed Kunstlich trying to block the entrance to a convenience shop near Place de la République as masked youths ransacked it; she was pushed aside and shouted that a man was alone inside. She told Le Monde the looters had no political message and warned that their actions could have consequences. The video also prompted unsupported online claims about her identity and views.
