Women’s Super League 2026-27 preview No 13: Tottenham Hotspur

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

Tottenham Hotspur head into the 2026-27 Women's Super League season aiming to build on a record-equalling fifth-place finish under manager Martin Ho, backed by a summer recruitment drive that has attracted attention across the division. Guardian writers have tipped Spurs for fifth again, but the club's growing ambition, increased investment and a settled pre-season have led some observers to view them as potential dark horses capable of troubling the league's leading clubs, including the free-spending London City Lionesses.

Last season Tottenham closed the gap to fourth place from ten points to just four, having finished 11th the year before, and their turnover rose from £3.39m in 2023-24 to £4.41m in the year to June 2025. New signings include the club-record capture Alice Sombath, goalkeeper Selma Panengstuen, and experienced WSL players Shekiera Martinez and Kirsty Hanson, who joined from Aston Villa as last season's third-highest scorer. Pre-season brought wins over Granada, Birmingham and a 5-0 rout of Bristol City, sandwiching a defeat to Real Madrid, while off the pitch the club suffered a setback in July when a high-court ruling blocked plans for a new women's and girls' academy at Whitewebbs Park.
