Marvel Television's "Wonder Man" showrunner and co-creator Andrew Guest has publicly pushed back on suggestions that the Disney+ series' cancellation was a marketing stunt, insisting the decision was genuine and came as a surprise to the creative team. In a TikTok video posted on Saturday, Guest said contracts had already been signed and schedules cleared for a second season before Disney and Marvel internally decided to scrap the show, despite having supported it as recently as a few months earlier.

Guest said the writers' room was due to start this month, with production planned for early next year, and stressed that no cast or crew scheduling conflicts, including director Destin Daniel Cretton's, were to blame. Variety first reported the cancellation in late July, reversing Disney's March announcement that the show, starring Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II alongside Sir Ben Kingsley, would return for a second season; Abdul-Mateen II also responded on Instagram, taking the news in stride.
