Disney+ has cancelled Marvel series ‘Wonder Man’, reversing a Season 2 renewal announced in March. The decision is notable because the show was well reviewed and had appeared to be an unusual multi-season commitment for Marvel’s largely limited-run live-action Disney+ dramas.

Sources said a writers’ room for the second season was never opened and the writers have been released for other work. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, the first season received a 91% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score; Abdul-Mateen also earned an Emmy nomination, while the series reached eighth place in Nielsen’s streaming originals chart during its release week before dropping out the following week. Disney did not disclose viewing figures, and the characters may still return in other Marvel projects.
