The showrunner of Disney+'s "Wonder Man" has posted a video attempting to explain the surprise cancellation of the Marvel series after just one season, pushing back on fan speculation about the reasons behind the decision. Andrew Guest said the cancellation was not a marketing stunt and that no film spin-off was in development, stressing that the cast and crew had been keen to continue and were already under contract for a second season.

Guest explained that scripts had been signed off, schedules cleared, and a writers' room was due to begin this month, with production planned for early 2027, before Disney and Marvel internally decided the show no longer made sense to continue, despite having renewed it in March. He said he was not given a reason involving viewership figures, and praised lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who recently received an Emmy nomination for the role, urging voters to recognise his performance. The series, co-created by Guest and Destin Daniel Cretton, follows aspiring actor Simon Williams and had been renewed for a second season before Marvel abruptly reversed that decision this week.
