Marvel star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has responded after Disney+ reversed its decision to renew "Wonder Man" for a second season, thanking fans for their support despite the surprise cancellation. The show had originally been renewed in March, only for the streamer to scrap those plans, cancelling it on Thursday—a decision that surprised many given the series' initially strong reception and Abdul-Mateen's own Emmy nomination for the title role.

"Wonder Man" debuted on Disney+ in late January, drawing 618 million minutes of viewing during its premiere week, though it later dropped out of the platform's top 10 original titles. Despite this, it maintained positive reviews from critics and audiences throughout its run. Abdul-Mateen took to Instagram to thank viewers, writing "the show worked" and referencing the messages of encouragement he received, before signing off with "See you at the Emmys." He is nominated for best actor in a comedy series alongside Steve Carell, Matthew Rhys, Jason Segel and Martin Short. Co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest had also been set to return, with the series' cast including Ben Kingsley, X Mayo and Demetrius Grosse.
