Wonder Project Expands International Slate With Three Series from U.K. and Ireland, Including Julia Roberts and Russell T. Davies Shows (EXCLUSIVE)
Wonder Project is expanding its slate of international scripted programming with three acquisitions from the U.K. and Ireland, reflecting the streaming service's growing appetite for British and Irish drama and comedy that it believes can travel well to U.S. audiences. The move underlines a broader trend of American platforms turning to the U.K. and Ireland for distinctive, character-driven storytelling, with Wonder Project's head of content acquisition, Tristen Tuckfield, citing the region's track record for producing shows that remain culturally specific yet universally relatable.
The three projects are "Leonard and Hungry Paul", a six-part Northern Irish comedy-drama narrated by Julia Roberts and acquired from Avalon for exclusive U.S. streaming as a Wonder Project Original; "You & Me", a three-part ITV Studios drama executive produced by Russell T Davies and starring Harry Lawtey and Jessica Barden, which will premiere on Wonder on 6 August; and "Rewarding", a new six-part comedy commissioned directly with BBC Northern Ireland, made by Banijay UK's Conker Pictures and set among domiciliary care workers. "Leonard and Hungry Paul" already aired to acclaim on BBC One/Two Northern Ireland and iPlayer, starring Alex Lawther, Laurie Kynaston and Jamie-Lee O'Donnell.
