‘Wordle in 1’ is the NYT’s new puzzle just for subscribers
The New York Times is launching a new tier of weekly bonus puzzles exclusively for its Games and All Access subscribers, offering fresh spins on established favourites such as Wordle, Connections, Strands and the Crossword. The move is aimed at deepening engagement with the paper's already hugely popular games portfolio by giving regular solvers extra, lower-pressure content beyond their daily puzzle routine, without adding to the pressure of daily obligations.
Around five or six new puzzles will drop every Wednesday, with formats including "Wordle in 1" (five single-clue rounds each with one solution word), a scaled-down "Connections 3×3", a visually reworked "Colorful Strands", a redesigned "Mystery Mini" crossword, an "Easy Mode Crossword" and monthly "Special Crosswords" made with celebrity collaborators such as Nick Offerman and Bianca Del Rio. The puzzles are rolling out now, with full subscriber access expected within a few months; subscriptions start at $6 for Games and $7.50 for All Access every four weeks, and an introductory set is free to play today without a subscription.
