Ffion Lewis will become the first Welsh woman to play in World Cups in both rugby union and rugby league when she represents Wales in Australia in October 2026. Her selection marks a return to the international stage after a serious knee injury and the end of her Welsh Rugby Union contract, setbacks that left her unsure whether she would play for Wales again.

Lewis, 28, played at the 2022 union World Cup and joined London Broncos after recovering, saying she did not want to leave rugby with regrets. She is one of 23 players named for Wales, whose pool matches are against England on 17 October, Samoa on 23 October and hosts Australia on 1 November; all are scheduled in Australia.
