World’s best on Welsh roads in Tour of Britain Women
The Tour of Britain Women, the UK's biggest women's road cycling race and Britain's only World Tour event, brings two stages to Wales this weekend as part of a five-day route running from Cumbria to Warwickshire between 19 and 23 August. It marks the first time the race has expanded to five stages, matching the men's Tour of Britain for stage count and further boosting the profile of women's professional cycling, while giving Welsh fans the chance to see homegrown talent race alongside some of the sport's leading names.
Stage three runs 104.7km from Mold to Great Orme in Llandudno on Friday, the first time Mold has hosted a women's stage start, followed by a tougher 138.3km stage four from Llanidloes to Hay-on-Wye on Saturday, featuring the race's highest total ascent at 2,280m. Race leader Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx – Protime) heads into the Welsh stages ahead of 2024 winner Lotte Kopecky, while Welsh riders Zoe Backstedt, her sister Elynor, and Anna Morris — fresh from Commonwealth Games track success in Glasgow — are among those competing on home roads.
