The Writers Guild of America has confirmed the venues and full submission-to-nominations timeline for the 79th Writers Guild Awards, set to take place on 13 February 2027. The dual ceremonies will be held at the Edison Ballroom in New York City and the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, marking what the guild hopes will be a return to normal proceedings after a turbulent awards season in 2026, when the West Coast ceremony was cancelled amid a strike by WGA West's own staffers against the union's management.

Nominations for the 2027 awards will be announced on Friday 8 January, with submissions opening on 31 August and a series of preliminary and final voting rounds running through January. The 2026 disruption came shortly before the wider guild ratified a new four-year contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. Separately, the WGA is currently involved in a joint lawsuit with WGA East against the proposed $110 billion Paramount Skydance–Warner Bros Discovery merger, seeking a preliminary injunction on antitrust grounds. Last year's WGA Awards saw One Battle After Another and Sinners take the top film prizes, while The Pitt swept its television categories.
