## Key points

- The WTA apologised for broadcasting practice conversations without warning players.
- Pegula criticised Andreeva in remarks picked up by a live microphone.
- Future practice livestreams will have no audio.

## Summary

The WTA has apologised after Jessica Pegula’s private practice-court conversation about Mirra Andreeva was broadcast without players being told the microphones were live. The incident has prompted scrutiny of the tour’s safeguards for players’ privacy and how practice sessions are recorded.

Pegula called 19-year-old Andreeva a “diva” and criticised her attitude and coach, Conchita Martínez; a separate livestream also captured an apparent disagreement between Elena Rybakina and her coach. The WTA said it had failed to inform players and their teams, and will continue practice livestreams without audio. The WTA Finals, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams, begin on Sunday; Pegula and Andreeva could meet in the semi-finals.
