## Key points

- WTA accepts responsibility for not warning players about active microphones.
- Pegula’s private remarks about Andreeva were livestreamed.
- The WTA removed recordings, but clips had already circulated.

## Summary

The WTA said it takes full responsibility after private comments by Jessica Pegula about Mirra Andreeva were broadcast during a livestream of practice at Indian Wells. The incident matters because players and their teams had not been told that microphones were active, and the WTA acknowledged that it failed to inform them.

Pegula called Andreeva “a diva” and said she “needs to be humbled”, while also describing her as “wonderful” and “smart”; she suggested Andreeva’s coach, Conchita Martinez, encouraged her behaviour. Pegula’s representative said she did not know the conversation was being streamed and that she had apologised to those involved. The WTA removed Wednesday’s recordings from YouTube, but clips had already spread online; the WTA Finals begin on Sunday and run until 15 November.
