Wu to face Wilson in British Open second round

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

World champion Wu Yize has been drawn against former Crucible winner Kyren Wilson in the second round of the British Open in Cheltenham, after both players won their opening-round matches. The tournament's random, unseeded draw format means notable clashes can occur early, and the day also saw several seeded players eliminated, including three-time world champion Mark Williams and world number two Neil Robertson.

Wu, ranked third in the world, edged compatriot Liu Hongyu 4-3, while 2024 world champion Wilson beat Austria's Florian Nuessle 4-1. Other players through to round two include Shaun Murphy, Ding Junhui, Barry Hawkins, Judd Trump and John Higgins, while Williams lost 4-0 to David Gilbert, Robertson fell 4-1 to Pang Junxu, and Luca Brecel lost 4-3 to Chris Wakelin. Mark Joyce, standing in for the injured Ronnie O'Sullivan, beat Mateusz Baranowski 4-1, while new world number one Zhao Xintong is due to face Oliver Brown on Tuesday.
