Marvel has confirmed that "X-Men '97" will continue with Seasons 3 and 4, set for release in 2027 and 2028 respectively, putting an end to the lengthy two-year gaps between instalments that frustrated fans after Season 1. Season 3 will also mark the first run to be overseen by new showrunner Matthew Chauncey, following the departure of original showrunner Beau DeMayo, who was dismissed in 2024. The change matters to fans because it addresses two of their biggest concerns: uncertainty about the show's future and worries that a change in creative leadership might disrupt its tone or quality.

Speaking at a FAN EXPO Canada panel, executive producer Larry Houston described the handover to Chauncey as "pretty seamless", noting he was introduced to the new showrunner during Season 2's production and that the team remains collaborative and aligned. Marvel Studios' Brad Winderbaum has also ruled out expanding future seasons beyond nine episodes, having reduced the episode count from ten in Season 1, explaining that he prioritises shorter waits between seasons over longer runs. No plans have yet been announced beyond Season 4, though the show's popularity suggests it could continue for some time.
