Chris Potter, the original voice of Gambit in the 1990s X-Men animated series, says Marvel never told him why he was replaced in X-Men ’97. The recasting stands out because the revival brought back much of the original cast, and Potter remains closely associated with the character after helping establish his popular animated portrayal.

Potter voiced Gambit for 75 episodes but was cast instead as Cable in X-Men ’97, with A.J. LoCascio taking over as Gambit. He said he had received no explanation from Marvel Studios, but expressed gratitude to remain involved in the series; X-Men ’97’s second season is now streaming on Disney Plus.
