Xiaomi has unveiled a new "passport-style" foldable phone, the Fold 18 Pro, at IFA 2026, signalling continued confidence in this squarer, wider foldable design already adopted by rivals such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8. The device was shown to press and dignitaries in a display-only capacity, with full specifications withheld until an official reveal on 7 September, shortly before a competitor's own phone launch event.

Xiaomi has revealed the phone in a striking supercar-red finish and confirmed it will feature notably wide front and inner foldable displays, plus a camera module bearing Leica branding, suggesting strong photography credentials. Notably, the Fold 18 will run on Xiaomi's own in-house chip, the XRING 03, billed as a "Flagship AI SoC" combining CPU, GPU and NPU components, potentially bypassing Qualcomm or MediaTek silicon entirely. The phone launches in China on 7 September, and Xiaomi separately announced plans to bring its electric vehicles to Europe.
