Yee makes Diamond League return – watch on BBC

BBC Sport · 1 month ago

Olympic triathlon champion Alex Yee will make his return to Diamond League competition for the first time in seven years, racing over 5,000m in Monaco on Friday, with the event shown live on the BBC. The 28-year-old, who has recently begun transitioning back to triathlon after experimenting with marathon running, says he is keen to keep pushing himself out of his comfort zone to unlock new performances and improve as an athlete.

Yee last contested a Diamond League 5,000m in London in 2019 and holds a personal best of 13 minutes 13.89 seconds; in Monaco he faces a strong field including this year's two fastest men, Addisu Yihune and Birhanu Balew, world silver medallist Isaac Kimeli and 10,000m world champion Jimmy Gressier. Fellow Britons Matthew Hudson-Smith, Jake Wightman, Ben Pattison and Kimani Jack also compete, with coverage on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app from 19:00 to 21:00. The article also notes the upcoming London meeting on 18 July, where Keely Hodgkinson and Josh Kerr are targeting world records, and outlines the Diamond League's format, its BBC deal until 2030 and total prize money of $9.2m (£6.8m).
